Here are five movies to keep your eye on for the month of July.

  1. Minions: The Rise of Gru- 1st

Another installment in the Despicable Me franchise and let me tell you, Universal is putting in the marketing work. They’ve done some cute and clever things; one in particular thing they did that caught a lot of notice is the remake of The Office opening credits. It fit perfectly knowing the voice of Gru is Steve Carell who played Michael Scott for the first seven seasons of the hit show. This Minions movie is cute and a fun family movie to check out. It’s also an origin story to how Gru became a supervillain.

2. Thor: Love and Thunder– 8th

We all had a good laugh when Fat Thor showed up on scene in Avengers: Endgame but it looks like he got himself back in shape and looking to find peace. As he sets off for a journey, he has a run in with Gorr, the God butcher (Christian Bale). So many things to look forward to in this film, including the return of Lady Sif from previous Thor movies and getting introduced to Mighty Thor, also known as Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). You can expect the same tone and vibe in this one as you did in Ragnarok, which was also directed by Taika Waititi.

3. The Gray Man– 15th (Netflix)

Okay to be honest when I heard about the casting of Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans for this movie, I didn’t give a damn about the trailer because I was already sold! Two of the sexiest man trying to kill each other, I just don’t know how I will handle this but the trailer looks insane! You can’t go wrong with a CIA assassin movie if the action and storyline is there and I think it is. Also starring Ana de Armas (Knives Out, Blade Runner 2049, & No Time To Die), Rege-Jean Page (Bridgerton), and Billy Bob Thornton.

4. Nope- 22nd

I’m gonna be honest with you…I have no idea what this movie is about but when Jordan Peele’s name is attached to something you know its gonna blow your mind. Peele has been crowned the king of horror films since his 2017 release of Get Out and has not missed since. I think aliens are involved in this one but with Peele’s mind it could be a twist to it. Nope stars Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead).

5. DC League of Super-Pets- 29th

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart are back together, this time on the animated screen. Based on the DC comic Legion of Super-Pets, Krypto the super-dog fights side by side with his best bud Superman. When Superman and the rest of the Justice League are kidnapped, Krypto must look to strays for help as they master their own newfound powers.

Other movies to check out this month: The Princess (1st on Hulu), Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank (15th), Where the Crawdads Sing (15th), House Party (28th)
