It seems like this month is a big month for streaming services. A lot of noticeable movies will be hitting some of your favorite streaming services but a couple big blockbuster films as well will hit the big screen. Here are five movies you should check out this month.

  1. Fire Island (Hulu)- 3rd

It is pride month and I think this is the best movie to kick off this fabulous celebration. This rom-com is about a group of queer friends taking an annual trip to the Fire Island Pines for a fun week of love and laughter. Fire Island stars Bowen Yang from SNL along with a few new faces to cinema.

2. Jurassic World Dominion- 10th

The final installment of the Jurassic Park/ World franchise is here! I’ve always loved and appreciated these movies especially the original Jurassic Park movie from the early 90s. It just brings back great memories from watching the VHS during my daycare days. I LOVED and appreciated our movie days. For 2 1/2 hours we get to escape and fantasize what it would be like to coexist with dinosaurs. This truly does feel like the last movie with the decision to bring back some of the original characters from the 1993 Jurassic Park movie, Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Dr. Ian Malcom (Jeff Goldblum).

3. Lightyear– 17th

Pixar can really use a win right now and I think Lightyear will do just that. If I were to bet on which Toy Story character would get its own movie, my money would have gone to Woody but I’m not mad about this origin story at all. Because Toy Story was for our generation, millennials and Gen Z, don’t feel ashamed if you roll in a theater with no kid(s) to see this movie. I will probably see it once with my niece and nephews and once by myself so i can actually enjoy it LOL. Chris Evans is the voice of Buzz Lightyear alongside Taika Waititi, Uzo Aduba, and Keke Palmer.

4. The Black Phone- 24th

Ethan Hawke describes his character as a “spawn of Satan” and based on the trailer I couldn’t agree more. The Black Phone is about a 13 year-old kid named Finney getting kidnapped and held in a soundproof basement by a masked killer. When a disconnected phone on the wall rings, Finney soon finds out he is hearing the voices of the kidnapped and murder kids before him- as they help him find a way to escape.

5. Elvis- 24th

The King of Rock and Roll has a new biopic coming. Austin Butler is taking on the role of Elvis Presley and based on the trailer it seems the kid has his personality and mannerisms down completely. Starring alongside Butler is Tom Hanks as his manager Tom Parker.

Other movies to check out this month: Hustle (3rd on Netflix), Halftime (14th on Netflix), & Cha Cha Real Smooth (17th on Apple TV+)
