U2’s Bono and The Edge tweeted Sunday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had invited them to perform in Kyiv “as a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people.”
You read that right. The President of a country being invaded by Russia invited one of the biggest bands on the planet to perform in an ACTIVE WAR ZONE.
AND THEY SHOWED UP!!!!!
Bono and The Edge were in Kyiv, Ukraine to do a 40-minute acoustic set in a subway station that was being used as a bomb shelter.
There aren’t words for how unbelievably brave and bad-ass this was from both Bono and The Edge. Check out some of the performance right here:
The Ukrainians have fought back against fierce attacks from Russia after they invaded Ukraine on February 24th. Thanks to the bravery of the men and women in Ukraine, and all the international support, Russian forces withdrew from the capital near the end of May to concentrate their attack in the eastern part of Ukraine.
