January is usually a slow month for movies, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there’s nothing to catch in the theaters. Here are five movies that might interest you this month.
- The 355– 7th
I’m a big Jessica Chastain fan so I’m easily excited for this movie. Chastain stars as Mason ‘Mace’ Brown, a CIA agent who joins forces with agents from all across the globe to take down a group of mercenaries with a top-secret weapon. Also starring alongside Chastain is Academy-Award winning actors Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther) and Penelope Cruz (Pirates of the Caribbean).
2. Scream– 14th
I’m not sure how much longer this franchise can go but I’m not mad about it. To think these movies have the same storyline and plot and maintains success is baffling to me. We are now 25 years from the original Ghostface killer in Woodsboro and the killing continues with a new generation. With Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette all returning as their respective characters we’ve all known and love, it seems this movie is setting up a big twist on the killer theory.
3. Hotel Transylvania: Transformania– 14th
I’m a fan of the Hotel Transylvania movies but I have to say the last one fell off a bit so I’m hoping they can redeem themselves with this one. Although the fourth installment will not be in theaters but Amazon Prime, I think this will make a cute family fun movie night for you and the kiddos.
4. Cyrano– 28th
Who doesn’t love a musical love story? Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) reprises his 2019 broadway role of Cyrano de Bergerac, a witty swordsman who has feelings for Roxanne, a friend who is in love with someone else. This movie is flying a little under the radar but seeing Dinklage in this world of music, love, and heartbreak would be somewhat of a breath of fresh air.
5. Morbius– 28th
We’ve long-awaited for the release of this Marvel/Sony project. Delayed due to the pandemic, Morbius kicks starts Marvel 2022 for us. Jared Leto stars as Michael Morbius, a biochemist who tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease. When his experiment goes wrong he infects himself with a form of vampirism. Will this be the perfect way to kick off the new year with Marvel? We shall see!
