It looks like 2021 is ending on a high note for cinema. Some big franchise blockbuster films are dropping this month and it will have you running to your local theater every week. Here are the five movies to check out this month.
- West Side Story– 10th
Anytime director Steven Spielberg attaches his name to a project you can expect greatness. It’s remake from the 1961 classic musical that took the hearts of musical lovers and racked up a lot of awards at the Oscars including Best Picture and supporting actress for Rita Moreno. Ansel Algort (Baby Driver & Divergent series) plays Tony, a teenage boy growing up in New York City who spots Maria at a high school dance. The two fall for each other but rivalries start to form between two gangs-Jets and the Sharks.
2. Spider-Man: No Way Home– 17th
What a way for Marvel to end the year with this one! So many anticipations and rumors surrounding this film that the fans don’t know what to do but just…wait. With Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) opening the portals from the different realities and multiverse, some familiar villains from other Spider-Man movies are making some appearances. We may even see multiple Spider-Man from past films as well, or maybe thats just a rumor too?
3. Sing 2– 22nd
My niece was 2 years-old when the first Sing came out and we enjoyed every minute of it. Now that she’s 7 she can’t stop talking about the sequel coming out. If I’m being honest I don’t really care what the movie is about, I just can’t wait to sing and dance to some of the biggest stars in Hollywood like Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Tori Kelly, Taron Egerton and Bono.
4. The Matrix Resurrections– 22nd
The fourth installment to the Matrix franchise is reprising the roles of majority cast members from the previous films, while adding some new familiar faces. Yahya Abdul-Manteen, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Jonathan Groff are just a few names that have been added to this movie. Kick-ass action sequences, slow motion shots, and a trip back into the Matrix are all of what to expect from one of the biggest and most anticipated movies of the year.
5. The King’s Man– 22nd
I really loved and appreciated this first Kingsman movie. The mixture of action, comedy, and fouled-mouth antics was done so well. Now two movies later it looks like this franchise is not slowing down one bit. The third installment takes place during World War 1 and its gonna be raunchy, bloody, and funny as the previous movies before and I can’t wait!
Other movies to check out this month: National Champions (10th), Being the Ricardos (10th in theaters and on Amazon Prime on the 21st), Don’t Look Up (10th), Nightmare Alley (17th), A Journal for Jordan (25th), American Underdog (25th)
