I’m sorry, this is one of the dumbest ideas on the planet, yet here we are talking about it.
A clothing company is getting some well-deserved hate after dropping a new line of hoodies at a fashion show this week in New York that were inspired by mass school shootings.
Yeah, you read that right. And yes, it’s EXACTLY what you’re thinking.
Fashion house “Bstroy” designed and (for now) plans to release hoodies that feature the names and logos of the schools that have been involved in mass shootings, like Sandy Hook, Marjory Stoneman Douglas and Columbine. The hoodies feature multiple bullet-holes too.
A survivor of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting went to Instagram yesterday to post, “My dead classmates dying should not be a f****ing fashion statement.” Another person affected by the Sandy Hook tragedy wrote, “What you are doing here is absolutely disgusting, hurtful, wrong and disrespectful. Our pain is not to be used for your fashion.”
Those are only a few brief examples of the comments on IG, if you want the full effect make sure to read them on the posts I’ve embedded below.
The designers tried to explain their decision in a follow-up statement, “Sometimes life can be painfully ironic. Like the irony of dying violently in a place you consider to be a safe, controlled environment, like school,” the release read. “We are reminded all the time of life’s fragility, shortness, and unpredictability yet we are also reminded of its infinite potential.”
So, it seems they’re not backing down…..for now.
From a personal standpoint, this is rather disgusting, right? Even the models look a little disgusted and slightly pissy, but that’s just me (Sid).
Regardless of what you’re feeling / thinking as of right now, the designer plans to sell these items. I’m not sure I know anyone willing to buy one. Are you?
